WILMINGTON, NC, (WWAY) -- A joint drug investigation between the Wilmington Police Department and the Brunswick County Sheriff's Department lead to the connection of a specific brand of heroin to a number of local drug overdoses.
Sunday night, around 8:30 p.m. on Kornegay Avenue, Wilmington Police arrested 32-year-old Kendrick Davis of Wilmington. Davis is charged with Trafficking Heroin, Possession With Intent to Sell and Deliver Heroin and Selling & Delivering Heroin within 1000 ft of a Childcare Facility. Police seized 150 bindles of Heroin from Davis. Each bindle was stamped with the name "Champ".
Investigators received more than a dozen calls in the past few days regarding drug overdoses linked to heroin stamped with the name "Champ". No deaths have been linked to the drug at this time.
