WILMINGTON, NC, (WWAY) -- Two Wilmington Police Officers involved in a shooting incident in November were cleared Monday.
On Nov. 6, police responded to a break-in call on Lamp Post Circle in Wilmington. A person inside the home called 911 to report someone was breaking in. Police said three black males kicked in the door and pointed a gun at the resident. The men ran away toward Lullwater Drive.
Afterward, police spotted a car with three men who fit the description of the suspects. Police said the men refused to stop and instead tried to run them over. Officers R. Raper and B. Cookson shot at the suspects, hitting one in the leg.
Jhahie Dunhun Mitchell, Derrick Anthony Hayes, Jr, and Gerrod Reshon Hughes all face charges and are in the New Hanover County Jail.
The two officers were on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure, but will return to work as soon as they are able.
