WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The new Duke Energy Progress natural gas plant is now up and running at the Sutton site on US 421 near Wilmington.

The new plant replaced the retired coal plant Nov. 27. It is designed not only to reduce emissions, but be more efficient than the old facility.

The plant can power about half a million homes with state-of-the-art technology that makes it better for the environment.

Crews will start demolition of the coal plant in the next year

This is great news. We have hundreds of billions of dollars worth of free natural gas, right off our coast. Much cleaner and more efficient then coal, or gasoline. And no more billions, overseas, to OPEC. It’s the source of the future.
