WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- It's time for what has become an annual Christmas tradition in Wilmington. It's your chance to give and receive during the Help for the Holidays One Day Blitz to restock the Salvation Army food pantry.
Once again WWAY is partnering with Krispy Kreme, the Salvation Army and 103.7 The Bone to help the needy in our community.
The response has been so overwhelming today that Krispy Kreme says it's already given away hundreds of dozens of donuts. So for the rest of the day we are only accepting donation of at least five non-perishable items in exchange for a coupon for free doughnuts. That coupon is good any day!
Last year the event set records by collecting more than 13,000 pounds of food and stuffed the Salvation Army's famed red kettle with nearly $2,300. It helped keep the food pantry's shelves stocked until June! This year we'd collected our first ton of food by 8 a.m.
The One Day Blitz is the Salvation Army's single largest food drive of the year. So join the WWAY news team today at Krispy Kreme at 2822 S. College Road to help make a positive difference in our community this Christmas and beyond.
