WILMINGTON, NC, (WWAY) — It’s the time for giving!

Once again, WWAY partnered with Krispy Kreme, the Salvation Army, and 103.7 The Bone to help the needy in our community.

Donations came pouring in throughout the day as dozens of fresh doughnuts were being prepared inside for those who brought at lease five non-perishable items.

Major Richard Watts with the Salvation Army said at least 16,000 pounds of food was donated today. The manager of Krispy Kreme told us that they gave out more than seventeen hundred coupons for a free dozen donuts. More than 20,000 doughnuts were given away Thursday evening.

I always enjoy participating in food drives, rarely ever passing the opportunity to give back. I also donate several times a year to the salvation army.
Yesterday, I made my trek to KK with my donation. I decided to give cash. Little did I know that KK had changed their donation policy and decided that only people giving food would get the donuts/coupon. I was told this only after I dropped my money, hardly even given a kind thank you..Or a wink and a nod like the bell ringers :)
Perhaps it should not have been advertised all week, and reported on after the fact (listen to the video) that you could get the donuts/coupon for either a donation of 5 nonperishables OR a donation of $5.00
I was going to give them away regardless.. and I felt this was dishonest.
