FIRST ON 3: New Hanover deputies investigate incident at high school basketball game

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- New Hanover County Sheriff's deputies are investigating an incident at Wilmington Christian Academy Tuesday night involving students from Onslow County, one of whom has been suspended.

Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Jerry Brewer confirmed an investigation involving students from Dixon High School. Brewer would not comment on the nature of the investigation, but he said it involves juveniles.

Teams from Dixon and WCA played basketball at the school Tuesday night.

"We are aware of an incident that took place in the locker room at Wilmington Christian Academy in New Hanover County Tuesday evening prior to a basketball game," Onslow County Schools spokeswoman Suzie Ulbrich said in a statement. "We are cooperating fully with law enforcement. A Dixon High School student allegedly involved in the incident is currently on summary suspension pending the outcome of a thorough investigation by the school and by the New Hanover County Sheriff's Department in cooperation with the Onslow County Sheriff's Department."

Investigators say charges could be filed next week, Brewer said.
