WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A man charged with DWI in a crash that killed one of his passengers last night has been convicted of drunk driving before.
The New Hanover County Clerk of Court's office says Mark William Neil Estep, 39, has had two DWI charges in the past six years in New Hanover County with the most recent one claiming the life of one of his friends.
Wilmington Police say Thursday evening Estep was driving under the influence when he failed to yield the right of way to a Jeep pulling into the Food Lion parking lot at Carolina Beach Road and Independence Blvd.
Estep's Blazer flipped over killing John Jackson Jr., 53, who was riding in the front seat.
Estep appeared in court today on charges of felony death by motor vehicle, DWI and failure to yield. He is in the New Hanover Co. Jail under $30,000.
The Department of Corrections website shows Estep's record includes multiple convictions each for drug possession, reckless driving, hit and run and driving while license revoked.
