WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Some Wilmington residents have been evacuated and several roads closed down after construction crews struck a gas line just after noon today.

Wilmington fire crews are on the scene of the leak at the intersection of 13th and Glenn Streets, where some roads are blocked because of the repairs underway.

Firefighters say 3 to 4 residents living nearby were forced out of their homes as crews with Piedmont Natural Gas work to stop the underground gas leak. They say traffic is blocked at the intersection of 13th and Castle Streets, in the 1300 block of Glenn Street, and at 13th and Anne Streets.

Fire crews say no one was hurt, and that no one is in danger because of the leak. They say crews will be monitoring the area until the repair is complete.
