WILMINGTON, NC, (WWAY) — The Coast Guard flew in a 56-year-old woman early Monday morning from a cruise ship about 225 miles southeast of the Bahamas.

According to a news release, the crew aboard the 915-foot cruise ship Grandeur of the Seas notified watchstanders at the Fifth District Command Center Sunday night, saying the woman was in medical distress.

The crew left the Coast Guard Air Station from Elizabeth City, N.C., at 3:30 a.m. Monday.

Their Jayhawk helicopter arrived on scene at 6:20 a.m., hoisted the woman and took her to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, N.C.

The woman was in stable condition.

Ok, not to be uncaring but something does not smell right here.

The Coast Guard flew a chopper from northern North Carolina to 235 miles SOUTH OF THE BAHAMAS to pick up a woman who was ill on a cruise ship and then brought her back to NEW HANOVER REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER?????? Do you know how far that is??

    What the hell?????

Either the reporting is bogus or the fiscal hawks need to jump all over this.

The helo rendezvoused with the cruise ship off of North Carolina. The original notification, the night before, was near the Bahamas.
