WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Commission Chair Woody White is considering a run for a much higher office.
White is expected to enter the race for the 7th District Congressional seat next year, but White told WWAY last night he will not make a formal announcement until January after GOP sources said the former state senator could make an announcement as soon as today. The Congressional seat has been held since 1997 by Democrat Mike McIntyre.
If he decides to run, White would face David Rouzer in May’s Republican primary. Rouzer narrowly lost to McIntyre last year in a contest that went to a recount.
McIntyre also faces a primary challenge from another New Hanover County Commissioner. Fellow Democrat Jonathan Barfield has said he will run.
