Belville commissioner resigns to pursue personal, professional interests

BELVILLE, NC (WWAY) -- Belville Mayor Pro Tem Charles Bost is quitting the town's Board of Commissioners.

Bost submitted his letter of resignation effective Wednesday. Mayor Mike Allen said Bost did not include the reason for his resignation. Fellow Commissioner Joe Breault says Bost quit because he did not have enough time to fulfill the requirements of the office.

"I thought Mr. Bost did a good job and tried very hard as a commissioner,” said Commissioner Joe Breault. “I have no idea why he resigned because I was on vacation when he submitted his letter but I guess we'll find out Thursday at the town meeting what his reasons were."

WWAY went to the Bost home where we were told that he didn’t want to comment on the situation. He was elected to a four-year term on the Board of Commissioners in 2011.

Town leaders say they will hold a special meeting Thursday to accept Bost's resignation and discuss how they plan to move forward.

"He's going to be missed because he's a commissioner, but also a friend,” said Mayor Mike Allen. “I'm going to hate to see him go, but sometimes we do have things in our personal life that sometimes are going to outweigh or overshadow some of the other responsibilities we have."

Bost is the second Belville town leader to resign in the last 18 months. Mayor Jack Batson quit in July 2012 as the Board of Commissioners prepared to censure him for reportedly holding discussions about merging with Leland without board approval. Allen became mayor after Batson's resignation, while Bost was named mayor pro tem.

"There were no issues on the board to my knowledge and we were working together as a team fairly adequately,” said Breault. “Mr. Bost had his own ideas of things and that was good."

What type of work does Mr. Bost do?

I have meet Mr. Bost in the past, and enjoyed speaking with him. I know he was in law enforcement then, is he still working in law enforcement now? Good Luck Mr. Bost.

First of all lets get some

First of all lets get some facts straight. Charles Bost was not the Mayor Pro Tem of Belville, he was removed from that position in a petty political move prompted by Joe Breault. Secondly, he is the 3rd Belville leader to resign, Commissioner Sheehan resigned in the summer. How is it that in one paragraph Breault says he knows why Bost resigned and then in the next he has no idea why? I'll tell you, because he's full of crap. As for Joe Breault's comments about everyone getting along, that's just laughable. Anyone who has attended the town meetings knows he has done nothing but antagonize Commissioner Bost for the last 2 years. When Bost tries to share his opinion Beault the blowhard yells and makes a scene. Just as bad is his puppet Donna Schardien who is a mindless, spineless, and useless. Mayor Allen needs to grow a set and stand up to Breault and his bullying tactics. By the way, I thought the only member of the board allowed to speak to the media was Mayor Allen, why is Breault always making comments. While I don't know why Bost resigned his position I can bet it's more than just a lack of time. I wouldn't want to waste my time with these people either.

Bost

Bost is the only board member with any sense. He knows how how to do the job and it's a shame Breault is getting his way again. That man is going to RUIN Belville just you wait and see. I hope all that voted for the wind bag is prepared to have their taxes raised cause Breault (admitted a mistake regarding budget on the laughable speed bumps) doesn't know budget (as Bost did. Breault is a bully that doesn't work with others and the rest of that board is stupid enough to let him rule them. I feel so bad for the Town of Belville. As soon as my new home is ready I am out of this joke of a town
