WILMINGTON, NC (StarNews) — New Hanover County officials have spent more than $5,000 this year on added security measures involving Commissioner Brian Berger since his fellow commissioners called for his resignation in March.
The call for Berger’s resignation came after Chairman Woody White said Berger’s “episodes have reached a critical mass.”
These “episodes” included Berger handing a copy of a 10-page document to Gov. Pat McCrory while he was in town on March 21 and Berger’s unauthorized trip to Washington, DC, to pass out thousands of copies of the document. The document threatened some county staff members and accused both current and former officials of illegal activity.
