WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — There is a happy ending to a story we first told you about last night.

A Chihuahua found roaming the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge yesterday evening is back home.

A couple saved him from traffic and put a plea out to find the owner. The owner had been on vacation and left the little guy, named Old Man, at her brother’s, where he escaped until he showed up on TV.

“I’m just really grateful that there are really good dog lovers out there, and that you all played a part in helping it,” Vernetta Brown said.

Brown showed his rescuers photos of Old Man to prove he was hers, but based on his reaction, including kisses for mom, it was pretty clear the little guy was ready to go home and steer clear of the bridge.

How happy-making to read a story with such brave people who rescued a dog on a dangerous bridge and reunited him with his Mom. Happy New Year indeed.
