RALEIGH, NC (AP) — North Carolina has starting issuing free photo identification cards in preparation for new voter requirements.

On Thursday, the state Division of Motor Vehicles started issuing the photo ID cards to people who don’t have other forms of identification.

The photo requirement, which would start with the 2016 presidential election, was part of a sweeping 2013 election reform bill approved at the end of last year’s legislative session. It also changed dozens of other voting and campaign rules.

Groups including the US Justice Department, the state chapter of the NAACP and the American Civil Liberties Union have sued Gov. Pat McCrory and the North Carolina Board of Elections over the voting changes. A judge has said no trial will happen until after the 2014 elections.

Social security number is all you need for Duke energy accounts (or Fed Tax ID).
And I haven’t had to produce a photo ID to cash a check in years (and a LOT of companies are using paychecks to debit cards for payroll now no check cashing needed!!!)
Photo IDs are so passe Tom………..

Can we get these even if we have a driver’s license? Wouldn’t want to be turned away to vote because of lack of id. :\

They are not free. I am paying for them. The NAACP is not. But this one is OK with me to keep felons and illegals voting for Democraps.

free ID card. that should help quiet the concerns of the opponents. But wait, it’s not about cost. It’s about curbing their ability to commit voter fraud.

why should there be any trial at all? if you are legally allowed to vote as a citizen in the U.S. then i say case closed. the truth is, if someone fails to receive their social security or welfare check they will find a way to get down to those offices to find out why. therefore there is no excuse for not doing diligence and getting a voter card.

Vote early and vote often.

the brain dead and those who would vote by the busload.

I also forgot that Democratic mantra ” vote early, vote often, vote Democratic”

I remember reading a Lyndon Johnson biography in which he noted a vote for local office cost $5 and a bottle of alcohol; led to creative fund raising. Now, the Dems just continue food stamps and Section 8.

Thanks for the reminder.

Don’t forget the cats and dogs who vote Democrat. They will now need picture ID as well. Doggie tags won’t do.

Those physically dead democrats should have as much right to vote as brain-dead republicans like yourself.
