WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Not everyone hates the cold weather chilling the Port City today. One wilmington family is embracing it and making snow.
They've been making at their home on Oleander Drive since 4:30 a.m.. Donna Putnam says one key to creating the snow here in Wilmington is temperature and humidity. The conditions today are very rare, which is what will allow them to produce snow for more than 24 hours.
Putnam says the family has been making snow for about seven years now with a pressure washer and compressor. She says it all started as something fun to do for her two kids.
"Nobody has to shovel the snow, and you're not going to have black dirty snow on the sides," Putnam said. "It's just enough that everyone gets to have a taste of it and a great time."
Putnam's two kids had friends over after school to play in the snow. People all day have been pulling over and getting out of the car to take pictures of it, too.
Putnam says she expects this snow to last between four or five days if it doesn't rain.
