BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A security glitch at the Brunswick Nuclear Plant sparked an investigation into why a barrier leading to its Southport site went up without being activated.

Duke Energy spokeswoman Amy Strecker says it happened yesterday around 4:30 p.m. at one of the security spots down an access road leading to the plant. She says the barrier is a security measure that prevents vehicle entry into restricted areas.

Strecker says the unexpected activation happened at a security barrier located just past a security checkpoint. She says that barrier will remain closed throughout the investigation. She says the plant, though, is still fully operational, and that there is no threat to the plant or its employees.
