Meet your goals in 2014

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The month of January is almost halfway over. Are you sticking to your New Year's resolutions and goals you've set for yourself?

James Zanker, Zanker Counseling Services, said there are three general rules you can apply to virtually any goal or resolution to help yourself stay on track. Whether you're overcoming an addition, such as smoking, or struggling to lose weight and improve your lifestyle there will be hurdles. Here's how you can overcome them.

1. Write down specifics of your goal; track your progress on paper and arrange others to hold you accountable for your progress as well.

2. Isolate cues keeping you from succeeding with goal thus far; form new good habits and redirect energy to support your goal.

3. Block out weekly times for achievable steps; create deadlines; reward yourself for your hard work.
