WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police say gangs may be involved after shots were fired at three Wilmington homes early this morning while people were inside.

“We do not believe they are random shootings,” WPD spokeswoman Linda Rawley said.

Two homes were hit just before 12:30 a.m. in the 400 block of S. 14th Street, where police say officers first heard the gunfire while patrolling in the area. ShotSpotter picked up the shots, which led them to two homes damaged by bullets and several shell casings nearby. Police say though people were inside the homes hit at the time of the shooting, no one was hurt.

“We want folks to understand that we do not believe there is someone just riding around just shooting, but we do believe they are specific and deliberate and that they are targeted,” Rawley said.

Around 3:35 a.m., a woman called 911 to report she had heard shots outside her home at 417 Clay Street about 40 minutes earlier. Police found nine shell casings outside the home and one bullet inside. They say the house had been hit multiple times. A police spokeswoman says the woman who lived at the house had no real reason for why she had waited to call.

Yes please do keep voting GOP! It’s the democrats that keep throwing $$ into social programs and making the problems ever growing. People need to rely on THEMSELVES, family, friends, church, whatever and not the Gov’t teat that takes from the working to coddle the non-working.

Wow, I almost forgot that none of these problems existed before the GOP won state elections. Everything was perfect then!

Oops! My bad! I just remembered that those problems actually were in place when the Dems were in power too. Now that I think about it, it looks like what you’re saying is just a steaming load of male bovine fecal material.

Desperate times make for desperate people. Drugs, unemployment, low or no education=crime.

This is all working out well. Keep voting GOP!

There a many many people unemployed who dont resort to crime. Most of the thugs here have never worked a real job in their pathetic lives. Drugs are easy to sell and you dont have to get up at 6 a.m. and drive to an office to sell them. Thugs are lazy people remember?

You think this is indicative of a heavy crime area? Really? Over-stating it, I think. Relax, It’s not that bad. All of this junk is concentrated in the same cesspool area that most of us will never ever step foot into. Let’s not make it more of a thing than it is.

My heavens, is Wilmington turning into Durham East? It seems to me that gangs and a criminal element are becoming a more and more serious problem that needs addressed quickly.

Wilmington is by far worse than Durham. I moved here for work and I have been looking for a transfer from day one.

Durham is actually a nice area now…most of Durham….they really cleaned it up. Wilmingtons violence has def gone up over the years. Kind of scary…why cant we all just get along.
