WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (LUMINANEWS.COM) — Wrightsville Beach was previously selected to be the host site for the 2014 USA Swimming Open Water Nationals but it recently moved due to safety concerns.
The event, which will serve as the selection meet for five different teams and international competitions, was moved to California’s Castaic Lake.
USASwimming.org cited safety concerns over tidal changes scheduled to occur on the dates of the event as reasons for the relocation.
“Safety is our No. 1 priority. We just felt like the tidal surge was just way too strong."
