WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Kids had a good time while learning a thing or two, all in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.
Many different agencies set up shop at the William E. Murphy Sports Complex for the 7th Annual Kids Fun Day on Saturday.
Most of the activities planned for the kids were interactive. New Hanover County EMS taught folks life-saving maneuvers and engineers from Corning showed them how to generate power without using electricity.
Kids also learned to make silly putty and participated in an egg drop, which put smiles on dozens of faces.
Organizers say MLK stood for peace which is a vital message to instill in our community's young people.
"It's all about the youth," said Hollis Briggs, chairman of the Martin Luther King Celebration Committee. "We have to show them love, and we have to show them dedication, and that we care about them."
The week long celebration continues Sunday with a marching band competition at Williston Middle School.
