stop the ignorance

The story says police responded to a call that stated there was a large crowd...(im unable to view the video at the moment) not a fight or criminal activity. Why would officers ask a group of people to disperse who aren't committing any crime or disturbance? Im not going to assume there was one, because i know, for a fact, that in Burgaw, if the group congregating isn't of a certain ethnicity, its loitering. But how does one loiter where he or she lives? And if they leave where they live, where do they expect them to go? It seems to me that maybe both sides jumped to conclusions.

You Want Police Protection...Act Responsibly

What do the people want the police to do when you call them in your area or trying to keep your streets safe? Maybe the lady that was subdued was mentally handicapped or had a physical disability but how were the police to know this? All they see are people screaming at them, throwing rocks, swinging baseball bats when the police are trying get things under control. And even if someone hollers to the police subduing the lady that she is physically handicapped how are the LAW OFFICERS to know it isn't just another ploy since as I said with everyone screaming at them or throwing things? If the lady has a physical problem why would she put herself in a situation of over-excitement such as this? To me the only thing that is going to get things under control in communities are for the people that live in them to cooperate with the law, not go running out in the streets so they can gang up and scream "police brutality." Then and only then can things maybe start coming under control. Otherwise, get ready folks cause the way things are going now it is going to be where the police are not going to be able to come in when you call or trying to keep your streets safe. The criminal element are taking over your neighborhoods and YOU won't be able to step outside your front door without fear of being shot, robbed, run over or some other lawless behavior. The criminal element know how to work you and it is very apparent that it is working. How different this would have gone down had everyone, including the handicapped lady, just have minded their own business and not congregated on the police. I for one am not going to run out in the street if the law comes in my neighborhood. I'll just let them do their job as I want their protection. The alternative isn't to swift!

I was in the crowd

The story is all wrong.
The crowd was gathered for some reason or another. I don't really know the reason behind the gathering but I do know that for. My buddy and I were sitting on my back porch. (Of my house for all you assuming the entire area is a housing development.) When the police came the crowd moved off the road into the grass. At this time there were only two cars. Then another arrived. We figured they were worried about the crowd. No arrests were made. The police began shouting orders for the crowd to disperse. (As a American I am kinda peeved by public servants ordering law biding citizens around.) The crowd began to move down the road a large portion having returned to the apartments. The police followed the now smaller crowd down the street.
Now at this time my friend and I were concerned so we walked out through my back yard into the nursery. At this time a few of the younger members of the crowd were asking loudly "Why are you still bothering us?" "We are not breaking any laws." One even claimed that they were just hanging out (Which is common around this area and never seemed to be an issue in our peaceful neighborhood.) One of the girls that had made a comment began to dance as she walked twirling. She was more at the back of the crowd and close to a officer. He came out of nowhere and tackled her nearly into a ditch. Like a football player. No need for so much force to be used never the less she was non violent and expressing her freedom of speech. (Later members of the crowd spread that she had been tasered though I only saw one officer with taser drawn.
At this time one young man (Well under the age of 18) started throwing rocks. Note: ONE YOUNG MAN. He was on a bike. Then the plain dressed officer and another apprehended a tall young man that was off in the close to the asphalt forcing his face down into the dirt and digging his knee into his back right near me. At this time I saw that the police were panicking. They'd arrested someone now for assault that did nothing but watch and tackled a girl that had health issues. Once again neither of them were breaking any laws. The crowd still just steady called out to the police for them to release the young man and quite a few of them cursed the officers but they seem to have turned it into the neighborhood of doom. No. This is a trash story that was blown up by the ones that wanted their fifteen minutes of fame.
Yes the police over reacted. The girl that was tackled should sue. I hope she does. I hope that a few of those officers lose their jobs. They speed through my little half a block road with my kids playing in the yard while talking on cell phones anyways.
Oh and for all of you hating on the low income families. Don't judge. May be you begging one day says the guy that pays his taxes.

This occurred in a public housing area didn't it?

If so, then this is an example of why those who live for free on tax money should forfeit that privilege when they behave in an anti-social manner. In a perfect world, if you live in public housing and decide to throw rocks at the police, then the police should confiscate your Medicaid and EBT cards as they evict you from public housing. While the Republicans have a super majority in the General Assembly and control of the Governor's office, they should pass legislation to deal with this type of nonsense.

All of the people responding

All of the people responding to these comments are the worthless people that live in the projects of Burgaw. I live there and I heard the noise and I saw what the people were doing to the officers. The officers asked several times for people to leave and they did not. If it was as harmless as you are saying it was then why were several differnt officers dispatched there. If you idiots would just act like human beings and not crazy animals this would not happen. I am so tired of hearing people complain that the poice are bad. No one wants to take responsibility for what they do wrong. It is the cops jobs to try and catch people doing things that are wrong. If you are dumb enough to leave a bar drunk and get behind the wheel of a car you should be arrested. That way I do not have to worry about your dumb A$$ getting behind the wheel of a car and killing one of my loved ones or someone else.

It stated several officers

It stated several officers responded, it didnt say several officers were called, in fact, wallace pd was told to stand down. It was a minor situation made major by the authorities, worsened by rebellion of the residents... who weren't doing anything wrong, initially.

Do you live there? If you do

Do you live there? If you do live in Burgaw then I'm sure you must be aware that the Burgaw P.D is a joke. Protect and Serve? If only that were true.Speed traps and harassment seems more accurate. And I'm sure Burgaw has plenty of drunk driver's at night seeing as how the night-life is so wild. (For those of you that don't know, there is only one small bar in the town) Also, if you think that you live with "worthless people that live in the projects of Burgaw" and have "crazy animals" that are your immediate neighbors why don't you leave. Lets not take this incident and glorify the Burgaw P.D. into something they are not. Lets just consider that ff the public has so much animosity towards them there is probably a reason.

Two Bars

You just lost your credibility. There are two bars in downtown Burgaw. They are about 50 feet apart. That goes to show that you don't know jack about Burgaw. And just like any other situation, the people who complain about police are the ones that have been caught breaking the law.

Two Bars ????

First I would like to say that there is not a "bar" one in Burgaw...at least those of us who know a little about Burgaw from living in the community all of our lives no this for a fact. First of all Bullard's isn't a bar. It an establishment meant for shooting billards and if you want a drink while you're there...then that's great too!!! Now...for the second "bar" in Burgaw...It's actually what educated people call a pub...They serve food and spirits. Now, by law, if either were considered a bar...anyone under the age of at least 21 would never be allowed in.

bars

THE SIGN ON THE FRONT DOOR OF BULLARD'S READS "BULLARD'S SPORTS BAR". But no its not a bar. The sign on Harvey's reads "Harvey's grill and tavern". You know nothing about the law and you know nothing about Burgaw apparently.

Pub

You are a complete moron. The Webster's dictionary definition of a Pub is "Bar or Tavern". Other definitions are "Drinking establishment". And Bullards is a Bar.

I'm not saying all but some

I'm not saying all but some of the police in burgaw do to much.I'm from burgaw &I have seen a lot happen there. People shouldn't be stopped for nothing. If they are drinking & driving then sure I can see them stopping them if they have a reason. If they are not doing anything &getting stopped because they are in the projects or near them that's bullshit .The police suppose to protect&serve. What if one of the officers with a gun had fell & killed one of the kids out there? You said the people out there act like animals but you live there so are you also speaking about yourself?

"What if one of the officers

"What if one of the officers with a gun had fell & killed one of the kids out there?"

It would be on the ones who refused obey lawful orders.

When you hear people bashing police officers...

...it's usually because they have mutlple criminal convictions from breaking the law and were caught. Criminals always want to blame everyone else for the reasons they have criminal records instead of being accountable for themselves.

In my last marriage, my ex-alcoholic wife or ex-felon stepson would call the police to our home 3-4 times a month. The officers never, ever acted in any other manner than fully professional at each visit. I've never had any trouble with the law and do not have a criminal record of any nature. That sort of makes a BIG difference!

Burgaw

If the Officers at the Burgaw Police Department would go back to policing the community instead of working traffic and acting like "wanna be" State Troopers, this probably would not have been an issue. The cops in Burgaw are too busy sitting outside the bars at closing time trying to catch drunk drivers. Check it out. They think the more tickets they write will pad their resume and will able them to get a job with the State. If you don't believe, sit there and watch every day and night you will see at least 3 Burgaw police cars and at least 4 State troopers at the corner of Hwy 117 and 53 there and stopping anything that moves. They are "fishing" and drum up charges for ie, failing to sign a registration card, failing to carry your drivers license ect. Ask any ADA or Defense Lawyer. Its public records. That would be a good story to look into.

I see you're a...

I see you're a real bright one Jason. Drunks kill people every single day in America dumb ass. Maybe a good story to look into is your complete lack of common sense.

Great News!

Thank you for confirming that Burgaw Police are doing their job in catching drunk drivers!

Considering we have about 40,000 people a year die in traffic accidents (compare that to recent wars), then I'm very happy they are trying to protect my family and me from worthless people who put others at the risk of death with something as selfish as drinking and driving.

Based on your post, it's not the Burgaw Police Department with the problem. It's you attitude that is the problem.

Tell us Jason - have you

Tell us Jason - have you learned to sign your registration card and to carry your license with you when you drive yet?
I'd love to know how writing tickets "pads a resume" and allows a local officer to become a state trooper? You REALLY think troopers get hired depending on how many tickets they can write?
Why don't you take your "sour grapes" and police the drunks yourself to allow the officers in your area to "police the community"?
And....stop ranting about things that are covered by laws...last I checked you don't change them.

Out of Context

Yes, I have lived in Burgaw. I wasn't bashing the Police. I was merely stating, that they should work the inner city limits in the high crime/drugs areas in Burgaw. But, low and behold, Burgaw has no "drug" areas. Drive around the "hood" and you will see the druggies on the corners. It's a small "hood" from Wilmington. All I was saying, there is a time for everything, and everything has a time. The Boyz in the hood know that after 9 pm, all the cops are at the Scotchman at 117 and 53. That's when they know it's safe for them but not us.l

I'm happy to read that's what the Burgaw PD is doing

"The cops in Burgaw are too busy sitting outside the bars at closing time trying to catch drunk drivers...They are "fishing" and drum up charges for ie, failing to sign a registration card, failing to carry your drivers license ect."

So they want to keep drunk drivers from hurting innocent people? Great! And they want to force other motorists to follow all the other laws that I have to (ie, failing to sign a registration card, failing to carry your drivers license, etc)? Again...Great! Sounds like the Burgaw PD is doing a GREAT job!

"Policing the community" is a nice piece of rhetoric but any "community" that throws rocks at the police and becomes hostile while they are affecting an arrest is hardly a "community" that can be policed.

An unsigned registration card? Really?

Failure to "sign" a registration card? Really? My signature's such a scribble it would make more sense for me to just sign with an "X". What good does that do??

For goodness sake, have the officer pull out a pen and give it to the driver to have him or her just sign it right there! If it really wasn't theirs, they would be signing it under penalty of possible forgery.

about the time a drunk hits

about the time a drunk hits you or runs you off the road, dont say a word!! dont call a cop!!

mean ole cops

How rude of them to pick on poor ole innocent drunk drivers. They should be allowed to continue on their happy way until they wreck out.

THE REAL REASON

FIRST OF ALL THERE WAS NO FIGHT.....I DO REPEAT THERE WAS NO ONE OUT IN THAT STREET FIGHTING. YOU SAW A GROUP OF PEOPLE, CHILDREN RIDING ON BIKES, MOTHER'S PUSHING THEIR CHILDREN IN STROLLERS. PPL ARE NOT ABLE TO TAKE A STROLL ON A NICE SUNNY SUNDAY AFTERNOON. THE POLICE CAME FROM SOME BOGUS CALL ABOUT GUNSHOTS, NO ONE OUT HERE HAD GUNS THAT WAS JUST A BUNCH OF BS TO HAVE A REASON TO STOP THOSE KIDS. THE POLICE JUMPED OUT THEIR CARS POPPED THEIR TRUNKS PULLED OUT THEIR ASSAULT RIFLES WITH BABIES IN STROLLERS KIDS ON BIKES AND PPL WALKING AND CARS RIDING BY. PPL THAT WAS NOT EVEN WITH THE GROUP OF KIDS WERE HARRESSED TOLD TO GET OUT THE STREET AND SO ON. WALLACE POLICE DAPARTMENT WAS NO WHERE ON THE SET.....WONDER HOW I KNOW WE DO HAVE ALL THE VIDEO COVERAGE!!!!!!!!

911

The actual 911 call came from a person in the area stating large crowd was saying someone was going to get beat up and there were multiple people with bats and weapons. Upon arrival on scene. Burgaw pd called for back up from any available unit including units from Duplin County because the crowd was disobeying orders from a law enforcement officer. There was also a call placed from within the crowd saying there was a gun in the crowd. Officers responded from all surrounding jurisdictions. When wallace pd got into Pender County they were 10-22d (cancelled) because ncshp and several other units were on scene and had it under control. As for the seizing lady in the video, there has been a comment found on a Facebook page by her saying "stupid ass Burgaw pd, I'm finna get paid." I'm sure the officers wouldn't have subdued her for no reason......

Where are you getting your

Where are you getting your information from about calls from a citizen... and bats & weapons??

Just a Sunday stroll, huh?

You don't mention any males being in the "Sunday Stroll" group, only mothers pushing baby strollers and children playing, right? So, I guess the public is suppose to assume that the rock throwing at the police was coming from the mothers pushing strollers and the kids playing? So it is all bogus, the rock throwing at law enforcement who just decided to show up and take out their assault weapons? I call BS on this entire comment and I'm waiting to see your Hallmark moment captured on the video you have, let us all know when we can see this postcard moment, OK?

I really want to see this

I really want to see this dramatic video myself.

YES SUNDAY STROLL

YES IT WAS A SUNDAY STROLL....AND YES THEIR WAS TWO OR THREE FATHERS OUT THERE WITH THEIR KIDS TEACHING THEM TO RIDE THEIR BIKES....WHERE YOU THERE.....I REPEAT WHERE YOU THERE??? AND VIDEO.....YES IT HAS BEEN SUBMITTED TO WHOM IT NEEDED TO BEEN SUBMITTED TO ANY OTHER QUESTIONS?

I have a question

Are you familiar with the 'caps lock' key? Could you press it just once and never touch it again?
