WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It was a family affair at this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade.

Kids cozied up to mom and dad as marching bands, dancers, and churches made their way through downtown Wilmington to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy.

The parade, which traveled down N. 3rd St. and back up N. 4th St., filled downtown with entertainment and a left a lasting message: equality for all.

“We keep the dream alive that Martin Luther King strived for us to have today,” parade spectator Joseph Corbett said. “We have whites, blacks, Spanish, all types of different nationalities out here today. It’s a good thing. It’s a good day, and it’s a blessed day that we can live to see this day.”

Corbett says the MLK Day Parade helps unite the community by bringing people of all walks of life together for an uplifting day of hope, freedom and peace; all things King strived for in his 39 years of life.

This year’s parade was a little different. It moved from to 3rd and 4th streets after one year on N. Front St.
