HAPPENING TODAY: Wilmington's MLK Day Parade honors Dr. King

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Wilmington's Martin Luther King Jr. Committee will honor the legendary civil rights leader's birthday in a big way today.

Part of a week-long celebration leading up to the holiday, the annual MLK Day Parade will march down a different route this year, with more than 100 groups participating.

The parade kicks off at 11 a.m. at the intersection of Hanover and N. 3rd streets, and runs through 2 p.m., ending at the intersection of Brunswick and 4th streets.

The parade is the centerpiece of all the celebrations going on through the weekend, and will feature six local marching bands and two bands from Baltimore, MD. You may also see some of the WWAY news team there.
