Six arrested at vigil for man who died in police car

READ MORE:

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - Police in North Carolina arrested six people following a vigil for a teenager who died of a gunshot wound while handcuffed in the back of a police car.

More than 100 people marched through downtown Durham Sunday night in protest of the Nov. 19 death of 17-year-old Jesus Huerta of what an autopsy determined was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The marchers carried banners, banged drums and blocked downtown streets following a memorial service at a nearby church.

Authorities say protesters wearing masks smashed windows and sprayed graffiti at several locations, damaging a police substation and several squad cars. Police arrested four adults and two juveniles. No one was injured.

Arrests were also made after two prior vigils resulted in confrontations with authorities. Huerta's family blames police officers for his death.
