SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) – Southport native Tommy Harrelson has written a coffee table book to celebrate the life of artist and photographer Art Newton titled ‘Southport’s Art Newton’.

Newton, also a Southport native, was a prolific artist that featured images of the Southport area and is now found in galleries and museums around the country.

His most famous photos are of the Southport waterfront following Hurricane Hazel.

You can get a copy of the book at shops around Southport or at www.carolinabeach.net/harrelson1.html.

I watched the video, and I was astonished that not one photo of Art Newton’s work was shown.

Randy even hid the cover of the book by placing his hand over it. If ever an “interview” screamed for visuals, this one did.

This Randay Aldridge “interview” has to rate as the worst I have ever seen. Please, WWAY, please tell Randy that television is a visual medium.

I commented to my husband about the lack of pictures too. I don’t know much about Randy Aldridge. Maybe it wasn’t his call but someone at WWAY involved in this interview should have included some pictures from the book.

If you would like to see a few pictures from my book, you could look on Amazon. There are a number posted with “Southport’s Art Newton.” All the retailers would be glad for you to look at them there.
