WILMINGTON, NC (StarNews) — Even though violent crimes ticked upward in Wilmington in 2013, a decrease in crime throughout downtown meant Part I crimes – including violent and property crimes – fell 3 percent in 2013, Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evangelous told Wilmington City Council on Tuesday.

In 2013, there were 6,249 Part I crimes, down from 6,411 in 2012, a year that included a temporary annexation of Monkey Junction which officials attributed as the cause for a slight rise in some crime statistics.

Violent crimes did jump upward in 2013, though, with particular gains in the number of rapes and the number of aggravated assaults.

    smoke and mirrors.

Violent crimes are not declining; new shootings weekly.

Council solution is to throw money at the wall and hire a youth “gang” advocate or whatever they want to call the new job.

Hold parents accountable beginning at birth.

End the production of new welfare mouths to feed. After the first, if you are on entitlements and choose to have another child which you cannot provide food, shelter, or medical insurance for without public doles, they get cut off for all; and out the door from public housing.

Take the restrictions off law enforcement. Let them do their job without the worry about media reports and Reverend Farmer.

Require the media model, Mr. “I Am the DA” to do his job and go for prosecutions with stiff jail terms; quit the plea bargain revolving door.

If all else fails, bring in Chuck Norris and give him an open license and ammo.

So, we need to cut babies off from having proper nutrition and a roof over their head or medical care and we turn into Haiti.
Also, let the police arrest and shoot people with impunity without any checks from newspaper or any other media. Sounds like Syria.
Of all the stupid stuff that you have posted on here, this is in the running for #1. But, then again, there are a lot of candidates for that honor.

How many innocent bystanders and police do you plan on losing their lives in this ill thought out scenario? I saw the riots in Wilmington in the 60’s. Chuck Norris would be running to buy Depends pads.

but…but…they told us crime was down and Wilmington is SAFE!..and you IDIOTS voted them all back in…MORONS!

must be one of those bleeding heart liberals who think those who wish not to be responsible for their actions should be able to do as they wish.

Sorry, that does not even work in a socialist society.

Go check, they have very stiff penalties for people in China who choose to ignore laws regarding the procreation of too many children.

Go check, they have very severe laws in many countries for things like thievery; try losing a hand.

Someone wants to have children; great. BUT, don’t expect the taxpayers to foot the bill for everything from the minute the child is conceived.

You have proven something. When you die, you’re not aware of it; only those around you are. Same holds for being stupid.

And you have to be stupid if you think the current system works.

Go back into your burrow; you have 8 or 9 days before EBT cards and other entitlements renew. But that gravy train is coming to an end.

…and just submittted your post for “stupid stuff” of the year. With the majority of the year remaining, you will easily grab the number one trophy! If you’re truly ignorant enough to believe that we even resemble the law and culture of Haiti or Syria, you need to go there and experience first hand. I seriously doubt you have the means OR the testicular fortitude to even attempt to travel to either of these countries. If you want to try the easier route, try reading reliable media reports and a book now and then to understand their history and their record of dictoral leadership.

You need to understand that US people that work hard, earn a living, support their children and pay their bills out of their own pocket get sick and tired of seeing our money continuously thrown into cavernous black holes that just get bigger. People need to motivate and empower themselves to rid their families and communities of violence. They need to learn how to work for an honest living rather than depending on the taxpayer, illegal drug trade and dealing in stolen goods. This takes a serious and abrupt “culture change”, NOT continually throwing good money at bad simply to make an appearance it will make a difference!

Where have you been hiding? Long time with no see.

There has to be a stopping point to all of this. SCT is just calling accountability to the law-breakers and the tax money abusers. I agree with SCT that I’m sick and tired of funding lazy a$$, system using, DANGEROUS people.

Perhaps the parents should be concerned with their child’s proper nutrition, residence, and medical care, rather than sticking the bill to the productive, functional members of society?

As long as the police shoot the lifelong moochers and their liberal enablers, I’d be all for it!

It’s not just pouring our good money after bad. It’s also struggling to make ends meet because we get taxed out the kazoo to pay for all this crap. I understand people who need assistance from time-to-time because of lost jobs and things like that, but I get tired of having to wonder where my kid’s next meal is coming from or how I am going to make the rent because so much of my paycheck is eaten up in taxes. Add that to the taxes I pay on everything I buy and I get a huge chunk of money I earn getting taken to help pay for other people who don’t want to work. It’s frustrating.

a very proud liberal now that you bring it up. It is much better than being a knuckle-dragging, tea-bagging, neanderthal.
Folks, listen to what you are saying. Kids don’t ask to be brought into this world, they have no control over it. But, you people are talking about starving kids, denying them health care, and putting them out to freeze for no reason other than they exist.
You are also talking about martial law. I’ve lived in countries where there was martial law with curfews and people telling you where you could travel and when. This is what happens in a police state which is what you are talking about. Also, when the cops are unfettered by watchdogs, we know what happens.
BTW, Tom, I didn’t know you were such a fan of Islamism as to endorse the punishment for stealing. Maybe you would like Sharia Law here in the states, huh? Sure sounds like a Moslem talking to me.

Just like the liars in DC, the goofballs in charge of Wilm. play with the numbers and tell you up is down. Enjoy the misery liberal govt is bringing to your hood!
