Wilmington beefs up security for Council meetings

By Julian March

WILMINGTON, NC (StarNews) -- Starting soon, anyone who wants to go to a Wilmington City Council meeting will have to pass through a metal detector.

Mayor Bill Saffo said council members have inquired about added security at city hall for some time.

"Our intention is – we don't want anybody to come in a city council meeting with a gun," the mayor said.

The council members should have to pass through the metal detector also. This will protect the all people at the meeting.

City Council should just

City Council should just stay home...the city would never know the difference!!

City Council?

I have to disagree that the city residents would not know the difference if the council stayed at home.........think of all of the tax dollars that would not get wasted on items like land deals for parks.....

With all of the "interesting" land deals and other back door nonsense the members of this council have been involved in, it comes as no surprise that they would be concerned.

there's something bad wrong

there's something bad wrong when our elected officials fear the very people that put them in office

Hold it...I'm confused...didn't Council and the Chief just make a big presentation on how crime is down? What is the security concerns all it Saffo afraid his estranged wife will show up at meetings?
