Columbus County to make up two missed school days

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Columbus County students will only have to make up two of four school days missed during last week's winter storm.

According to the Columbus County Schools website, the district will use Friday, Feb. 21, and Friday, March 28, as make-up days. The district says at this point these are the only two needed make-up days because of banked hours built into the school calendar.

What this article fails to state is all Columbus County School employees are being charged 4 days of compensatory time (if you have earned compensatory time), annual leave, sick leave, or leave without pay for the 4 days for school missed last week. I understand that Bladen County School are adding 16 minutes to the end of every school day for employees starting Feb 10 - June 11 to make up for their missed days. Now that is how you take care of your employees. School employees are always staying 30 minutes to an hour or more after knock time every day anyway to get the job done and it looks like Bladen County is going to reward their school employees by letting them make up the time in this way instead of charging them valuable sick leave or annual leave that is needed for some because of sick children, etc. Way to go Bladen County!

What the article did not tell you is that the teachers will lose 4 of their sick days, annual leave days , or no pay to make up for the 4 missed days.m
