RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- A five-mile run through downtown Raleigh is just the sort of thing a healthy person would do.

Perhaps not, since Saturday's race includes a stop at the Krispy Kreme to eat a dozen doughnuts at the halfway mark.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported this is the 10th year for the Krispy Kreme Challenge. It's raised more than $500,000 over the years.

Organizers say racers are not actually required to eat all the doughnuts before resuming the race. In fact, runners do not have to eat any doughnuts.

Officials hope to have more than 7,000 people in the run. The cost is $35 for students at North Carolina State University, where the race begins. It's $42 for everyone else.
