WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The 9th Annual Red Dress Luncheon is a wrap, and organizers say it was another great year for the fundraiser.
The New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation hosted the event at the Wilmington Convention Center.
The Red Dress Project is designed to bring women together to raise awareness of heart disease. Representatives say it's important to educate women on the symptoms.
"I think women multitask so much that they don't pay attention to what's going on around them," heart disease survivor Jean Cherry said. "They just ignore symptoms and say, 'i've just got a pain,' or, 'i just probably picked up my child wrong.'"
Heart disease is the number one killer of women. It takes more lives every year than breast and lung cancer combined.
