WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A New Hanover County Sheriff’s deputy is out of the hospital this morning after another driver running a red light caused him to crash his patrol car yesterday afternoon.

Sgt. Jerry Brewer with the sheriff’s office says it happened at the intersection of 16th and Castle streets when Deputy J.D. Doyle was driving his patrol car there. He says driver Nicole St. Clair failed to stop for the red light when she entered the intersection, so Deputy Doyle’s car struck the side of hers.

Doyle was taken to the hospital for minor injuries and was later released. Sgt. Brewer says Wilmington Police cited St. Clair for running the red light and gave her a safe movement violation.
