WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Snow and ice are accumulating around the region, as the latest winter storm hits southeastern North Carolina. Late this morning the National Weather Service updated its advisory to put the entire area under a Winter Storm Warning.

Gov. Pat McCrory said he signed an emergency declaration this morning. That frees state resources as needed and also triggers the state’s price gouging law.

Rain continues to fall around much of Wilmington, but reports of ice in trees have come in as close as Leland. Brunswick County Schools announced this morning that students would be sent home at lunch time with schools closed tomorrow.

In Bladen County snow began accumulating this morning. The school district, which originally planned to release at noon, sent students home at 10 a.m. and canceled classes for tomorrow.

In Duplin County, a blanket of snow covered homes and lawns by late morning, while in Pender County, our crew spotted ice forming on street signs in Burgaw and viewers have reported ice in trees in Hampstead and Rocky Point.
