BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Several cars crashed in Leland earlier this morning, shutting down lanes in the area, after dispatchers say a tractor trailer slammed into two empty patrol cars.

It happened on Highway 74-76 near Highway 17 around 7 a.m., forcing fire crews to close down the on-ramp as police and deputies help clear the scene. Dispatchers say DOT crews are already there, waiting to treat the roads once the vehicles are moved out of the roadway.

They say it all started when a tractor trailer and another vehicle slammed into a Leland Police car and a Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office car that were both parked with no one inside. Dispatchers say no one was hurt in the crash, which they believe involves between 6 and 8 cars.

No word on when the roads will be cleared, but dispatchers say drivers should use caution throughout the morning until conditions improve.
