WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Many of you probably have been battling cabin fever after our second winter storm in three weeks, especially the kids.

With schools out for another day, many parents are trying to find ways to entertain them.

Second grader Noah Foland and his friends enjoyed a much needed day outside of the house today. His mother and her two friends decided to take their kids to the Children’s Museum of Wilmington to help cure their cabin fever.

“A couple of weeks ago it was fun, but yesterday it got a little crazy, so today we were anxious to go out and play with friends and get some energy out,” Emily Foland said.

Foland’s friend Suzanne Biagini says she has tried to keep her kids active and occupied throughout the storm, but was starting to run out of ideas.

“Yesterday we spent the day cleaning my house, so today we had to get out, because since it was so clean I needed it to stay that way,” Biagini said.

The museum staff says they have seen an increase in business, which they hope continues through the holiday weekend.

“Everybody has been coming by, and they are excited, because we have hot coffee and a warm place to play and lots of fun and new friends to make,” the museum’s Emily Cosper said.

This trio of moms says they have enjoyed spending more time with their kids, but now it’s time to get back to school.

“I hope they go back to school,” Tiffany Cornwall said. “We are finishing up making valentines and snacks and cupcakes and stuff for the class, so hopefully we will be able to send that with the kids tomorrow to school.”

The county does have a pool. Off to the east is a BIG one known as the Atlantic Ocean…although it’s a tad cold to go swimming in this time of year.

Here’s another idea. Instead of bemoaning the fact that your kids had/have nothing to do in the form of exercise other than exercising their thumbs with video games…take them outside and go for a walk, play in any one of the parks in the area.

And when did a pool become a “basic facility”?

If our county had a pool, then we could have a popular activity for exercising our kids. Unfortunately, our county leaders spend foolishly thus depriving us of basic facilities other counties have.

Lets see, you could join the YMCA and use their pool. A pool is not a basic facility, can you tell me any county that provides an indoor heated pool?
