WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Tow trucks have been busy this week dealing with icy roads, but today drivers stopped to honor one of their own.

A seemingly never-ending row of tow trucks lined the Greenlawn Memorial Park in Wilmington this afternoon. They were there to honor William Earl Chambers, who died Monday. Chambers owned Earl Chambers’ Wrecker service, where he worked alongside his son Mike and his grandson William.

Chambers was 78 years old.

I was so blessed to know Mr. Earl and his wonderful daughter Lynda. He was a sweet and honest man who deserved this respect. What a wonderful way to show everyone how much he meant to this community. Rest in peace Mr. Earl….

Just wanted to say Thank you everyone for all the continued thoughts and prayers for our family. My papa was a wonderful hard working very well known loving caring man. Still to this day it doesn’t seem real. He had a heart of gold and a smile that would melt your heart. Thank you to all the tow truck owner and operators that made his last ride so memorable. My papa will rest easily knowing what everyone thought of him. Although my heart still hurts with pain, I know I still have all of our memories (some good and some bad) but memories last a life time. Papa goes rest high in heaven, tell everyone your wonderful stories, save me a seat beside you….when I get there I want to hear all your stories about heaven. I love and you miss you dearly!! RIP
