READ MORE:

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Alderman Elementary students celebrated the school’s 50th anniversary by preparing for the future Tuesday night.

At a ceremony in Wilmington, teachers and alumni joined the students to help put mementos into a new time capsule after opening one from 20 years ago. Students also sang a new rendition of the school song.

Earlier in the day, teachers and students lined the halls of the school with posters showing what was going on in history when the school opened in 1964.

Principal Bob Maxey said it was a great educational experience for students.
