First Federal banks changing name this summer

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Customers of First Federal will see their bank change names this summer. The bank has branches in Wilmington, Leland, Hampstead and Sunset Beach.

The bank's parent company First Financial Holdings, Inc. says it will join five brands under the name South State Bank. The holding company also plans to change its name to South State Corporation, pending shareholder approval.

The company currently operates in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia under the brands First Federal, North Carolina Bank and Trust (NCBT), Community Bank & Trust (CBT), The Savannah Bank and South Carolina Bank and Trust (SCBT).

First Federal will change its name on July 21. The other brands will switch a few weeks earlier on June 30. Once all the brands are under the same name, customers will be able to do their banking at any location throughout the three-state network, which currently includes 138 branches.
