OAK ISLAND, NC (StarNews) — The Oak Island Town Council unanimously placed a moratorium banning any new homes larger than six bedrooms on Thursday after hearing from residents asking for stricter rules on large-sized houses.

The moratorium is slated as time to work out the rules and regulations on “mega-homes” on the island. The council hopes to develop and adopt the new regulations by mid-April.

The council will have a number of workshops with the town planning board on the matter.

If I built a house for my family with one guess room it would have to be 8 bedrooms. So, if it is a single family home and not to rent why should they restrict it. Yes, I have 5 boys and 1 girl.

After all, we wouldn’t want to bring down the property value of those 1960s and 70s single-wide trailers, would we?

Funny. If Oak Island is anything like our beaches here in Wilmington, those old trailers are irrelevant. People buy the LAND and wipe out the old homes/trailers If the people of this small beach community have voted for their decision leave them be. Wrightsville Beach has done the same thing in many ways (regulations) I don’t care for it so I don’t go there. Easy enough.

Only has to look at the troubled sewer system to see why they are trying to regulate mega mansions..
