AZALEA FESTIVAL: Belles find the right fit

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The 2014 Azalea Belles are getting ready to represent the Port City.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday more than a hundred Azalea Belles will be fitted for their hoop skirted antebellum era dresses.

Many of the Belles are following in their sister and mother's footsteps in a longtime tradition of being an ambassador for Wilmington for the annual Azalea Festival.

"I'm really excited, my sister did it and ever since she was a belle I wanted to be a belle," said Erin Kelly.

"It feels really special to wear something from Wilmington's earlier times and celebrate it," said Ruth Smith.

"This year I really wanted to do it because last year my friends did it and I was kind of jealous," said Summerlyn Parks.

The 2014 Azalea Festival is April 9th through the 13th.
