Your characterization of marijuana as an addictive substance is an area of debate that is still an open question. Your characterization of the gateway process from smoking pot, to killing to satisfy a craving for drugs, is truly cartoonish in its scope. In many ways, it reminds me of the movie “Reefer Madness”.

According to the Pew Research Center, slightly less than half of all Americans have smoked pot at one time or another. If we are to buy into your doomsday scenario, the results of that would most certainly be a society totally enmeshed in utter drug chaos by now. It’s not. Sure, there’s plenty of negative aspects as a result of our society’s use of brain altering substances, including alcohol, but nothing that even comes remotely close to what you conclude the result of all of that pot smoking would be.

Personally, I’d rather believe in the reality of what has occurred than in a conjectural doomsday scenario that hasn’t actually happened.

That doesn’t wash.. is the old war on drugs spin. Do drug users of other drugs have pot in their system; yes but they didn’t get to those drugs solely from from using pot. It is like saying beer is a gateway to Moonshine. Beer -> Wine -> Fortified wine -> Liquor -> Grain Alcohol. Most of us stop somewhere along that path (I like a beer and occas. Jack Daniels myself) but I don’t decry beer as the gateway that took me to using other forms. The drugs involved in the shootings are likely NOT pot but stronger ones; maybe it’s time to do a bit of research and come out from under your own rock?

How’s it any worse than the crimes all you drunks and legal prescription pill addicts cause. North Carolina needs to get with the times this state is so dry and boring. One day all you old people will be dead and will all be smoking pot remembering how your stubborn ways held society back from growing. Go drink and drive around in your truck because past 9 pm in nc if you want to do anything other than drink or eat your sol. So what do you recommend people do sit around looking at walls or drink and become another brain dead trash ass drunk.

Whatever rock I have been for the past 15 years we’ve managed to get the news that the “gateway theory” has long been disproven.

While Reefer Madness may still be on at the (closed) Whiteville Cinema, the rest of the world is starting to realize that Prohibition only increases crime.

Cannabis can actually help you get OFF drugs:

Pot heads are the low hanging fruit.

When/If you ever come down off that buzz, look around and realize you are in North Carolina, not Colorado. Pot, in any form is still illegal here. You can always move out there since we are so backward and unlearned. Be careful though, there has been a 300% increase in pot related auto crashes with death/injury since the weed was legalized.

I really would like to know what rock you have been hiding under for the last 15 years, but please let me enlighten you a little.

Does it not occur to you that in 99% of these “shootings” that you referred to in your comments were generated by the use and sell of drugs. This “medicinal plant” is a drug, and once addicted to it, it alone does not satisfy the drug user. They then become addicted to stronger drugs, and before long this person is endangering the lives of others by selling, stealing, and killing to satisfy his craving of drugs.

So yes, my dear, this is a REAL crime. Thank you to our law enforcement officers for dealing with the issues that put the people in our society in REAL danger.

Unless this useful medicinal plant has been out shooting people in Tabor City, I would like to know why law enforcement is wasting time on tips about weeds when people are being killed in front of their families in the streets? How about focusing on REAL crime?

LOL there was no “Plans to distribute” He didn’t even know that was the stuff being delivered to his home. I know him personally and if he had known, he would have NEVER agreed to it. Instead of following up on this as said the pointless killings and shootings need more awareness.

Can you provide a link to that figure?

“Our research suggests that the legalization of medical marijuana reduces traffic fatalities through reducing alcohol consumption by young adults,” said Daniel Rees, professor of economics at the University of Colorado Denver who co-authored the study with D. Mark Anderson, assistant professor of economics at Montana State University.”
The alcohol producers didn’t welcome this news.

Marijuana has been growing on Planet Earth for eternity, and used as a potent medicine by countless societies. Look at the big picture for once. A few industrial heads decided to lobby and buy votes back in the 1930s in order to eradicate this very useful medicine. The American people were brainwashed by the Reefer Madness propaganda.
Now we are waking up.
I can safely say that Marijuana is not mentally or physically addictive, although it might be habitually addictive. It does not lead to harder drugs, that is just complete nonsense. Some people have highly addictive behaviors, with food, drink, pills, and they may very well try weed and move onto other drugs. However, the majority of people that experiment will not.
If this is a free country, than we should be able to consume a plant that grows naturally and makes us feel good, helps ease our pain and discomfort and that is now a proven cure for many ailments, including cancer. Wake up people, stop believing hype that was generated 80 years ago.

While driving under the influence of anything is unsafe, as problems with the prescription drug Lunesta has clearly shown, legalizing cannabis does at least reduce fatal crashes overall:

“States that legalize medical marijuana have fewer fatal car crashes, largely because of a decline in drunk driving.”

Soon, if things keep up, everyone that can move out of Columbus County will be gone and the empty storefronts Chadbourn can collapse on the sidewalk unnoticed.
