WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department swore in 16 new officers from all walks of life this afternoon.

From the son of a retired WPD officer to an officer all the way from Los Angeles, recruiting officer Ron Evans says this group is special.

Police Chief Ralph Evangelous says they are one of the best-looking groups they’ve had, all thanks to Evans.

“This gives us an opportunity to put more officers on the street to tackle issues, to tackle crimes that over the past few months it seems to have been an influx,” Evans said.

He says he is very proud of this group for making it through and keeping their patience throughout the process.
