WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A teen charged with killing a Marine now faces a murder charge.

A New Hanover County Grand Jury indicted Jackson Davies yesterday on second-degree murder and felony death by motor vehicle. The 19-year-old East Carolina University student was originally charged with felony death by motor vehicle after a Feb. 16 incident on Rose Ave. In Wilmington.

Investigators say a fight at a frat party early that morning led to Davies hitting and killing Cory Reese, 22.

A judge doubled Davies’s bond to $100,000 today. Davies has not yet turned himself in on the new charge.

A few beers and your life is over. When will these kids learn? Sorry for the loss of the man, perhaps if they both had not been drinking this wouldn’t have escalated into this mess.

JACKSON DAVIES APPEARS TO FIT THE DESCRIPTION OF A “COWARD” and a “BULLY”. HE WAS ASKED TO LEAVE A PARTY FOR A REASON AND IS RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS ACTIONS. UNFORTUNATELY, HIS LACK OF SELF-CONTROL AND IMPULSIVE BEHAVIOR RESULTED IN THE DEATH OF A FINE YOUNG MAN… SELF DEFENSE??? A VEHICLE??? C’MON!!!!

He was never asked to leave, he just had heard that his friend was kicked out so he went looking for him when the frat boys, and the marine gave him a hard time. If the boys didn’t surround his car while beating on it, and screaming that they were going to kill him then none of this would have happened.

Second degree murder seems to be a stretch.

Indeed it does, especially since the deceased jumped on the hood of the vehicle, contributing to his own demise. Hope I am on this guy’s jury if it comes to trial.

There is a catch to this teenager’s problem. He is over 18, so he is an adult. He is under 21, so consumption of alcohol is illegal. He was already breaking the law in the beginning, by drinking. That would be the initial offense that started it all. Then he was asked to leave the party, there must have been a reason. Davies then head butted Mr. Reese. Then everything went bad. If Mr. Davies had not been drunk and looking for trouble, this would most likely not have happened. Usually, when you break the law with one offense, anything that is a direct result of that offense will also become your responsibility.
