LELAND, NC (WWAY) -- A man wanted for a sexual assault in Leland late last year has been arrested in Texas.

Leland Police Sgt. Nick Jacoby says Raul Antonio Cortez was arrested last week in Midland, TX. He says Leland had a warrant out for him for a sexual assault that happened in December. After a while, Jacoby said it turned into a fugitive warrant that was turned over to the US Marshals Service.

Jacoby says Cortez and victim came into North Carolina together from Virginia, then the victim was sexually assaulted. As a result, the assault falls under human trafficking. Jacoby says Cortez has not been charged with that crime, but he says Immigration and Customs Enforcement is into it.

Jacoby says Leland Police plans to try to extradite Cortez.
