WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police say a validated gang member shot at a couple weeks ago is charged with a stabbing. They also say they are searching for two of his brothers in connection with the crime.

Today we sat down with the suspect in jail to figure out what is going on with another string of violence police say is gang-related.

William Point, 19, is charged with first degree attempted murder, but he says he is an innocent man.

“I told them I was in the barber shop and stuff and that I didn’t see nothing,” Point said. “They like, ‘no, that’s a lie, that’s a lie.’ I’m like, ‘ how is that a lie?’ I mean I can’t really say nothing I didn’t see. So they didn’t believe me, so they just took me down.”

Wilmington Police say Point and two of his brothers, Adrian, 22, and Antonio, 21, tried to kill Edvis Galloway Wednesday near 10th and Chestnut streets. Investigators say it was gang related, but Point says he is not part of a gang.

“My favorite color is red, but I ain’t affiliated,” William Point said. “I be around people, but I ain’t affiliated.”

But Sgt. Amy Guy of the WPD Gang Task Force says he is. She says as the weather heats up, so does gang activity.

“One gang member can disrespect the other, simple as throwing a hand sign at him or that type of thing, and then they have to make a name for themselves, stand up for their gang, and that’s where you see a lot of the violence,” Sgt. Guy said.

Point says this is not the case for him

“I’m not trying to make a name, but other people might,” he said.

He says police are targeting him and his brothers.

“We be getting targeted and stuff like that, but we don’t be starting stuff,” Point said.

Guy says parents need to pay close attention to who their kids are hanging out with and what they are doing.

The search continues for his Antonio and Adrion Point. Anyone with information is asked to contact Wilmington Police or send an anonymous tip to their Text-a-Tip hotline.

William Point is in jail under a $750,000 bond.

Folks, do you really expect him to say “Sure, Bro. I’m a member. That’s why we offed that dude. He can’t dis us and get by. We gonna take care of biness.”
Point knows everything he says will be used in his trial. Just because he tells WWAY he’s innocent doesn’t make it true. He has more than a little conflict of interest here.
All the Al and Jesse wannabes need to go ahead now and get their “Free Point” signs printed and hit the streets since WWAY is leading the innocence charge for Mr. Point.

As for one that actually speaks and understands english I could not understand a word this thug said. I agree does anyone actually believe that he would admit to the crime. Poor baby that the cops are paying attention to the gang members here in the Port City. They are finally getting the message. What an idiot!!!
Go back to school thug!!!

Why in the world would you take the time to “interview” a suspected gang member? The guy couldn’t even raise his eyes to make contact with the interviewer. Why give the gang members any more advertisement? They don’t deserve to be honored by being on TV! And, it goes without saying: they are all innocent and are “good boys”. What a joke!

I less then 4 years, this Gangster, Bully, Criminal, has quite a history. Especially, considering 9/10 arrests, get dropped, or plea-bargained, down.

I cannot believe that the public school system, as well as the parents of these kids, are failing them so badly. It’s a shame that when they are quoting this you man that he cannot even form a proper sentence. Uneducated, unethical, and delinquent; this seems to be the going standard for these young thugs. It’s disheartening and pathetic to say the least. Get off the streets, get an education, and get a job! Do something with you life besides spend it behind bars like the animal youve become.

are all people in jail innocent? In the great movie shaw shank redemption they said something like, “every body in shaw shank is innocent”. Just my uneducated observation.

The NAACP’s so called “Rev.” Barbour needs to step up and help out the community that supports him. He won’t though because he won’t get a stipend like the one he recieved from another so called Reverend and his lowly 10.

Some of these guys are not gang members. They want to seem tough but they may just be associates of the gang members. Keep in mind every African American is not a gang member. No they are not my family, I am just speaking on what I have seen and read on Wway.

… do not walk around town wearing court-ordered GPS monitoring ankle bracelets, when they are subsequently arrested yet again for yet another offense.

And yet he has the nerve to try to claim innocence …
