EXTRAORDINARY PEOPLE: Reagan flies the coop!

Belville, NC (WWAY) -- At 9 years old, Reagan Christian is our youngest Extraordinary Person(of the Week) so far this year.

March 19th is National Poultry Day. A perfect day for Reagan's story to fly the coop.

Maple is one of many chick(en)s who contributed to the cause.

"It started out my goal was $20," Reagan Christian said. "Then my Uncle gave me $20."

Oh how that 20 turned into much more. But let's not count the chickens before they, well, you know.

"She always wanted to sell her eggs," said Reagan's father, Joe Christian.

Nine year old Reagan Christian turned her backyard into a business.

"You usually don't see these at stores, but backyard chickens lay those, depending on what breed you get," said Reagan. "They come in all shapes and sizes."

All shapes and sizes. There's just one size of Reagans heart. It is enormous. Her idea was to sell eggs from her own chickens and donate the money to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to help kids with cancer.

"The equivalent to a lemonade stand, for her eggs," said her father. "She had ideas, do it at the mall, do it like this. "

Reagan created flyers. A neighbor helped with a facebook page. All of a egg-ducation was born.

"I made her put a business plan together to make it a learning experience for her," Joe said. "She owned the whole thing."

The handwritten letter is ready to mail to St. Jude detailing her business adventure. It notes that her goal was $250 but she and her 16 hens raised $275.

When asked about future egg-citing endeavors she said, "Last year we started raising the garden so we're going to try and get back to that and who knows if we start selling veggies."

All I know is that Reagan and her unselfish backyard business idea....hatched something "Extraordinary".

Reagan sold the eggs for $2.00 a half-dozen.
