RALEIGH, NC (TRIANGLE BUSINESS JOURNAL) — WaterPlayUSA, a Wilmington-based search engine for water sports activities, has received a cash infusion from a new investor to help propel the company into the next stage of commercialization.

Launched several years ago by brothers Walt Smith and Will Smith, WaterPlayUSA helps connect travelers with local companies that rent paddleboats and kayaks, book charter fishing trips and organize other water sport activities while on vacation.

It's sort of the Expedia or Travelocity of water sports.

Awesome business concept. There is a huge need for this with potential global opportunity. I can see cities, towns, counties, etc. etc. etc. more than willing to help get their local companies listed on their search engine. Kind of like Google, local companies can compete for the top spots in the search by what they’re willing to pay.
