Shallotte business owner charged with sexual assault

SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) -- A Shallotte business owner is in jail charged with sexual assault.

The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office says deputies arrested David Rodriguez, 52, this morning on two counts of second degree sexual assault for an incident last night. The Sheriff's Office says Rodriguez owns a locksmith business in the Shallotte area.

According to an arrest warrant, Rodriguez engaged in a sex offense with a victim who was "physically helpless." A Sheriff's Office spokeswoman says she believes the female victim was intoxicated at the time of the attack.

Rodriguez is in the Brunswick County Detention Facility under a $100,000 bond.
