CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The rain couldn’t stop hundreds from lining the boardwalk for the iconic taste of a Britt’s donut.
Britt’s opened their doors for the 2014 season Friday, March 28th.
This is the 75th year for the legendary donut shop, that’s why local teacher and author felt it was the perfect time to publish a book commemorating the local landmark.
Daniel Norris is Britt’s self-proclaimed “biggest fan.”
“Everything i eat is judged by how good it is compared to a Britt’s Donut” Norris said.
He knows pretty much all there is to know about the legendary donut shop, he literally wrote the book on it.
Norris says, “It’s really a social and cultural focus point.”
He’s friends with the owners of the family business Bobby and Maxine Nivens
Norris said he always loved hearing them talk about the “old days.”
“The stories that came out of them were really worthy of a book.” Norris said, “They’re sweet in a really genuine way.”
and after 75 years of business on the Carolina Beach boardwalk There are surely plenty of stories to tell.
One section of the book even tells how Bobby and Maxine met.
Consistency is important to Britt’s.
They’ve offered the same menu since 1939.
Owner Bobby Nivens said, “Same thing, got the choice of glazed donuts or glazed donuts.”
