WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — One woman is recovering tonight after Highway Patrol says she rear-ended a school bus Friday morning.

Investigators say a woman driving a van on Highway 701 hit the bus when it stopped near Dogwood Lane in Whiteville.

Superintendent of Whiteville City Schools Dr. Thomas Hager says two Edgewood Elementary students were on the bus at the time of the wreck.

The students along with both drivers were taken to Columbus Regional for examination.

Dr. Hager says the bus driver and students were released, and the students were eager to get to class.

The driver of the van was air lifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for her injuries according to investigators.

Trooper Tubbs said as of Friday afternoon she has not been charged with anything, but he anticipates charges to be forthcoming.
