Senior stars walk the red carpet at Brightmore of Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- In Wilmington today, seniors at the Brightmore community got fancied up and put on their Sunday best, for their second annual Academy Awards.

The competition was fierce here at the Brightmore of Wilmington as senior stars walked the red carpet with hopes of winning a coveted mini Oscar.

John Solano was just one of many winners. He was awarded best animated personality, and speaking with him for just a few minutes, you can easily see why.

"I've always been a happy person,” Solano said. “In fact there are two things my wife says about me. First of all, if god had put a serious thought in your mind, you might have amounted to something. And the second thing she says is you don't have sense enough to be unhappy. Life is good. Enjoy it to the fullest."

Solano says it is an honor to receive this award because it shows just how much his joy reflects on others.

Meanwhile, other award winners got their chance in the limelight as they accepted awards for best trivia solver, best card player, and many more.

Other categories include best hair, best laugh, and of course Ms. And Mr. Congeniality.
